When Dr. Amanda Winburn launched PlayLAB, she envisioned a brand that was vibrant, playful, and inviting to school-aged children. The goal was to create an identity that captured the spirit of imagination while remaining approachable and professional. Our research explored the visual language of toy brands, arts and crafts materials, and interactive packaging, all of which informed the final design direction.
The branding features a bold, energetic color palette, whimsical illustrations, and dynamic patterns designed to spark curiosity and creativity. At the heart of the identity is a customizable logo that children can interact with and personalize, paired with a refined version for formal applications such as documents and stationery.
PlayLAB, developed at the University of Mississippi, brings the power of play therapy to schools in Oxford and surrounding districts. Through toys, games, and creative expression, PlayLAB helps children communicate emotions and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. The brand reflects this mission by creating a space that feels safe, joyful, and deeply engaging for young minds.
